NAIA elevates Collegiate Bowling to emerging sport status

NAIALogo_small.jpgThe National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has elevated the sport of bowling to emerging sport status. The move by one of the nation's governing bodies for collegiate athletics puts bowling on the path to becoming a championship sport for dozens of additional colleges and universities across the country. Bowling reached emerging sport status when 25 or more NAIA member institutions declared to participate for the 2010-2011 academic year.

Columbus, Ga., to host 2011 USBC Intercollegiate Team Championships

USBCITCLogo_small.jpgThe 2011 USBC Intercollegiate Team Championships will be held April 20-23 at AMF Peach Lanes in Columbus, Ga., the United States Bowling Congress announced. The ITC is the pinnacle tournament of the collegiate season, bringing together the top 16 men’s and top 16 women’s teams to compete for a national title. Four sectional qualifying tournaments determine the field for the ITC. The 2011 ITC originally was announced for Syracuse, N.Y., but was shifted to Columbus because of a scheduling conflict.

Jenn Boisselle, Chris Bardol claim Intercollegiate Singles Championships titles

2010ISCJennBoisselleChrisBardol_small.jpgChristopher Bardol of Robert Morris (Ill.) and Jenn Boisselleof Central Florida each won five matches on Tuesday to claim titles at the USBC Intercollegiate Singles Championships held at AMF Euless Lanes. Bardol was the No. 12 qualifier in the men's field while Boisselle was the No. 13 qualifier for the women. Bardol beat Sean Rangel of William Penn, 3-1, in the men's title match while Boisselle edged Central Florida teammate Samantha Macina, 3-2, to capture the title.

Santiago, Wyandt lead after Day One at USBC Intercollegiate Singles Championships

2010ISCRyanWyandtJessicaSantiago_small.jpgJessica Santiago of Webber International and Ryan Wyandt of Penn State-Berks were the top qualifiers during Monday's USBC Intercollegiate Singles Championships being held at AMF Euless Lanes in Euless, Texas. Santiago, who rolled a 300 game in the last game of qualifying, led the 16-player women's field with a 2,449 total (204.08 average). Wyandt had a total pinfall of 2,487 (207.25 average) to lead the men's 16-player division. All participants advance to Tuesday's single-elimination match play bracket.

Top collegiate bowlers to battle for titles at Intercollegiate Singles Championship

USBCISCLogo_small.jpgThirty-two of the nation's top collegiate bowlers will be at AMF Euless Lanes in Euless, Texas, starting Monday to compete for national titles at the United States Bowling Congress Intercollegiate Singles Championship. The participants will bowl 16 qualifying games on Monday, May 17, to determine the single-elimination match-play bracket. On Tuesday, May 18, match play will consist of best-of-five games until a champion is determined.

Wichita State men, Webber International women win Intercollegiate Team Championships

Calumet's Ryan Gleghorn, Webber's Hayley Beavis were named MVPs

2010ITCWebberInternationalWomen2_small.jpgThe Wichita State men's team won its third consecutive national title, while Webber International claimed the women's championship Saturday at the 2010 USBC Intercollegiate Team Championships. The Shockers dominated the men's final, sweeping Calumet College of St. Joseph, 2-0,, while Webber International (pictured) won the women's title with a 2-0 victory over McKendree. Both championship matches will be televised on ESPN2 on Wednesday, May 5 at 9 p.m. EDT.

Wichita State Men and Women earn top seeds at Intercollegiate Team Championships

Derek Hartnell, Jennifer Wright earn Collegiate MVP honors

Hartnell and Wright were honored along with the rest of the All-Americans at the Night of Champions banquet held Wednesday in conjunction with the 2010 United States Bowling Congress Intercollegiate Team Championships, which open Thursday at the El Paso Convention and Performing Arts Center.

For the second time in two days, the Knights (pictured left) had beaten Nebraska, the defending champion, this time to win the NCAA Women's Bowling Championship. Fairleigh Dickinson, a university of 6,000 students in Teaneck, N.J., won its first championship since 2006.

Leuthold (l.) and Falk (r.) were also voted Player of the Year in Division I and II, respectively.

Hawks take nation's No. 1 ranking to NCAA Championship

UMES makes seventh straight trip to Nationals this weekend.

UMESLogo_small.jpgSeven is a number that seems to follow the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) when it comes to NCAA Championships. This happens to be the seventh trip for the Lady Hawks to the event which has been held seven times. They also like to finish seventh at the event. In all of their trips to nationals UMES has finished seventh every time, except of course 2007 and 2008. In 2008 they brought home the title, the year before they were runner-up.

National Collegiate Women's Bowling Championship field announced

NCAALogo_small.jpgThe eight-team field competing for the 2010 NCAA National Collegiate Women's Bowling Championship was announced on Wednesday by the NCAA Women's Bowling Committee. New Jersey City University will host the championship, which will be held April 8-10 at Brunswick Zone Carolier Lanes in North Brunswick, New Jersey. The championship finals will air live on ESPNU Saturday, April 10, at 8:30 p.m. Eastern time, and a tape delay broadcast of the finals will air on ESPN Sunday, April 11 at 3 p.m. Eastern time.

Delaware State University wins second straight MEAC bowling championship

DSU defeats Maryland-Eastern Shore in decisive series, 4-3

2010DSUHornetsWomen_small.jpgThe Delaware State University bowling team (pictured) has captured its second straight Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Tournament championship after defeating Maryland-Eastern Shore four-games-to-three in a dramatic best-of-seven Baker scoring series. UMES defeated South Carolina State to advance to the championship round. The Hawks then outlasted the Hornets four-games-to-three to force the decisive series.

Lady Hawks earn number one ranking for the first time since the 2009 season

UMESLogo_small.jpgIt took 16 months, but the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Women's Bowling Team has regained the number one ranking in the nation. The March poll of the National Tenpins Coaches Association (NTCA) featured a record breaking 21 members voting and eight of them cast the Lady Hawks as the first place team. Those eight votes, along with the other 13 voters gave UMES 566 total points and the top spot in the poll.

Field is set for 2010 USBC Intercollegiate Team Championships

USBCcollegiateLogo_small.jpgThe field for the 2010 United States Bowling Congress Intercollegiate Team Championships has been determined following sectional qualifying tournaments held this weekend. Sectional qualifiers were held March 13-14 at four sites – AMF Parkway Lanes in Allentown, Pa.; Holiday Bowl-Brainerd in Chattanooga, Tenn.; Landmark Lanes in Peoria, Ill.; and the South Point Hotel and Casino Bowling Center in Las Vegas. The ITC will be held April 14-17 at the El Paso (Texas) Convention and Performing Arts Center.

USBCcollegiateLogo_small.jpgTwo-time Team USA member John Szczerbinski of Wichita State and women's regular season average leader Jenn Boisselle of Central Florida were among the players who qualified Friday for the 2010 United States Bowling Congress Intercollegiate Singles Championships. The USBC Intercollegiate Singles Championships, which will be held May 17-18 at AMF Euless Lanes in Euless, Texas, features 32 of the top male and female collegiate bowlers in the country competing for national titles.

Shockers headline Peoria Sectional

Top four teams will advance to the 2010 USBC Intercollegiate Team Championships

200910WSUShockers_small.jpgAfter finishing their regular season last weekend, the WSU Shockers quickly found out that they will be traveling to Peoria, Ill. to compete in the Peoria Sectional, March 13-14. Both the men and women (pictured) will be competing in the same sectional which features 17 teams in the men's division and 18 in the women's. The top four teams from each will advance to the USBC Intercollegiate Team Championships at the El Paso Convention and Performing Arts Center in El Paso, Texas on April 14-17.

UMES women's bowling team visit International Training Center

20100305UMESatITRC_small.jpgIn preparation for upcoming postseason events, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) women's bowling team paid a visit to the International Training and Research Center this week. The Hawks, the No. 2 ranked NCAA team nationally, trained with ITRC and Team USA head coach Rod Ross and assistant head coach Kim Terrell-Kearney (pictured left) at the International Bowling Campus. The team did a combination of classroom work and on-the-lanes training.
