Martin Paulsson ends 2011 Men's European Championships with victory in Masters

Swede Martin Paulsson (r.) captured his second major title at Dream-Bowl Palace in Unterföhring, Germany, when he capped off the 2011 Men's European Championships with victory in match play Masters. Paulsson, who won the Doubles gold medal (with Mathias Årup) at the Men's World Championships in Munich last year, swept All Events champion and No. 1 seed, Mads Sandbækken (l.), in the title match, Norway, 2-0. Osku Palermaa, Finland, and Thomas Larsen, Denmark, shared the bronze medals.

Denmark beats defending champion Finland to win the prestigious Team gold at MEC

Sandbækken, Rudshagen claim gold and silver for Norway in All Events

2011MECDenmark_small.jpgDanes Thomas Larsen, Anders Lousdal, Jimmy Mortensen, Mik Stampe, Jesper Agerbo and Frederik Øhrgaard (pictured) defeated defending champion Finland featuring Perttu Jussila, Joonas Jähi, Jari Ratia, Osku Palermaa and Kimmo Lehtonen, 1039-977, to win the gold medal in the prestigious Team event in the Men's European Championships. The number 3 turned out to be the lucky number in the MEC finals. In all three finals, Doubles, Trios and Team, the No. 3 seed cruised to the title.

Norway beats Denmark and Belgium to win Trios title at Men's European Championships

Sweden wins first gold medal of the 2011 Men's European Championships

Karl Wahlgren, Dennis Eklund defeat No. 1 and 2 seed to win the title in Doubles

The Swedes, seeded third in the finals decided in single-game matches, ousted their teammates and No. 2 seeds, Robert Andersson and Martin Larsen, in the semifinal, 440-428, and went on to defeat top-seeded Mads Sandbækken and Tore Torgersen of Norway in the title match, 453-423.

Sweden takes 116-pin lead in Team event after the first block on short oil

2011MECLogo_small.jpgMultiple European and World Team champion Sweden overtook the lead in the five-player team event in the Men's European Championships after the first block on short oil Thursday morning at Dream-Bowl Palace in Unterföhring, Germany. Robert Andersson, Dennis Eklund, Karl Wahlgren, Martin Paulsson and Martin Larsen rolled games of 1088 and 1037 and closed things out with a huge 1189 game to lead the field of 33 teams with 3314 pinfall and an average of 220.33.

Belgium, Denmark, Norway and Finland to bowl for Trios title at Men's European Championships

Doubles and Trios finals to be contested after first block of Team event on Thursday

2011MECVansteenbruggeMaggiLeroy_small.jpgGlenn Vansteenbrugge, Mats Maggi and Olivier Leroy of Belgium (pictured) posted a 3888 six-game total and averaged 216 to earn the No. 1 seed for the Trios finals at the Men's European Championships in Germany. The Beginas will meet fourth-placed Finns Kimmo Lehtonen, Jari Ratia and Perttu Jussila in the semifinals while Danes Anders Lousdal, Jesper Agerbo and Thomas Larsen take on Norwegians Glenn Morten Pedersen, Björn Einar Rudshagen and Svein Ake Ek.

Norway's Sandbækken, Torgersen earn No. 1 seed for Doubles finals at Men's European Championships

Sweden in second and third; Germany denies Sweden's bid for three finalists

The Norwegians finished the preliminaries with a combined 24-game pinfall of 5475, an average of 228.13. Joining them in Thursday's finals are Swedes Robert Andersson/Martin Larsen and Karl Wahlgren/Dennis Eklund and Germany's Tobias Gäbler/Marco Baade.

The duo totaled 2749 pins, an individual average of 229.08. Sandbækken led all 198 players from 34 countries with 1456 pinfall or an average of 242.67.All 98 doubles return on Tuesday for the second block on ong oil.

34 countries to participate in the 2011 Men's European Championships in Germany

2011MECLogo_small.jpg The 2011 Men's European Championships will be held June 11-19 at Dream-Bowl Palace in Unterföhring in the outskirts of Munich, Germany. This marks the third time in only ten months that Europe's biggest bowling center (52 lanes), which opened its doors in Dec. 2009, will host a major international championships. 34 countries have submitted the entry forms for a total of 199 players, who will compete for gold, silver and bronze medals in Doubles, Trios, Team, All-Events and Masters.

Norway, Sweden name their teams for Men's European Championships in Germany

The head coaches of Norway and Sweden, Mats Karlsson and Tomas Leandersson, have named their teams for the Men's European Championships to be held at Dream-Bowl Palace in Unterföhring Germany in June. Medals will be given in Doubles, Trios, Team, All Events and Masters. 205 men from 35 member federations of the European Tenpin Bowling Federation are expected to participate. Both coaches have changed their roster on two positions since the 2010 Men's World Championships.

Israel announces teams for Munich MEC and Hong Kong WWC

2011ISRNationalTeam_small.jpgThe Israeli Bowling Federation has announced its team for the 2011 Men's European Championships in Germany and the 2011 Women's World Championships in Hong Kong. The national team members were determined after 42 games (six 7-game series, three on long and three on short oil) which were bowled in two bowling centers - Hutzot bowling center in Haifa and Bola bawling center in Holon - over a span of four weeks.

Pöllänen beats Andersson to end 2010 Women's European Championships with victory in Masters

Five countries share the medals in Riga, Latvia

2010WECLogo_small.jpg Krista Pöllänen, Finland, defeated Sandra Andersson, Sweden, two-games-to-one to win the gold medal in Masters in the 3rd Women's European Championships 2010 Saturday at Zelta Boulinga Center in Riga, Latvia. Andersson received the silver medal while Hayley White, England (0-2 vs. Andersson), and Kamilla Kjeldsen, Denmark (0-2 vs. Pöllänen), shared the bronze medal. Five of the 23 participating countries shared the medals in Doubles, Trios, Team, All Events and Masters.

Dutch girls average almost 230 to lead WEC Team event at halftime

2010WECLogo_small.jpg The five-player team from the Netherlands got off to a blistering start as Wendy Kok, Lisanne Breeschoten, Ghislane van der Tol, Bianca Wiekeraad and Priscilla Maaswinkel tallied a 3436 series on short oil to lead the Team event at the Women's European Championships after 3 of 6 games with a 229.07 average. Sweden, however, was mere 26 pins behind in second place with 3410. Third place belonged to Denmark with 3312 and Germany was fourth with 3297.

English girls come from behind to win Trios gold at European Championships

2010WECTriosEngland_small.jpgEngland's Nicki Ainge, Lisa John and Hayley White (pictured) came from behind to win the Trio title in the 3rd Women's European Championships Wednesday at Zelta Boulinga Center in Riga, Latvia. Starting the second day of the preliminaries in 9th place, the English trio fired the highest 3-game series on long oil (2046, 227.33 average) to grab the fourth and final spot for the playoffs and went on to defeat No. 1 seed Denmark and No. 2 seed Netherlands to claim the gold medal.

Denmark in top qualifying position in Trios after block 1 at Women's European Championships

Netherlands, Sweden and Finland also on course for playoffs

2010WECLogo_small.jpg Kamilla Kjeldsen, Mai Ginge Jensen and Rikke Holm Rasmussen rolled games of 728, 648 and 723 to take a comfortable 134-pin lead in the Trios event of the 3rd Women's European Championships 2010 in Latvia after the first 3-game block on short oil with 2099 pinfall total and an average of 232.22. The Danes outaveraged their nearest competitors from the Netherlands by almost 15 pins.Sweden is third and Finland in fourth place. The second block and the playoffs will follow on Wednesday.

Top seeded Swedes beat Finland to win the first gold medal of the championships

In the championship match, the 2008 WEC Doubles champions defeated Finland's Piritta Kantola and Krista Pöllänen, 454-429. Finland took the silver medal and England and Denmark shared the bronze medal. The championships will continue Tuesday and Wednesday with the Trios event.

The duo totaled 2850 pins and averaged 237.50 over six games on short oil to lead Finland (2756), Denmark (2716) and defending champion Sweden (2708). The 53 doubles from 21 countries will bowl another six-game block on long oil before the cut to the top 4, who will bowl for the medals.

Barrett, a two-time World Youth champion, lost the first game in best-of-three format, 174-153 but rebounded with two straight wins, 204-187 and 269-185, to wrap up the title. Hansen earned silver and Finns Petteri Salonen and Joonas Jähi shared the bronze.

Finland beats defending champion Sweden to win Team title in Men's European Championships

2009MECLogo_small.jpg Finland became first country to win multiple gold medals in the 2009 Men's European Championships in Aalborg, Denmark, when Joonas Jähi, Kimmo Lehtonen, Jussi Turtiainen, Petteri Salonen, Osku Palermaa defeated defending champion Sweden in the title match, 993-953. Dennis Eklund, Mathias Årup, Robert Andersson, Erik Andersin and Martin Larsen, the No. 3 seed, had to settle for the silver medal. England and Germany shared the bronze medal.

The Finns will meet No. 4 Germany in the semifinals, while second-seeded England takes on defending champion Sweden, seeded third. Norwegian Petter Hansen (pictured right) captured the gold medal in All Events averaging 219.21 for 24 games.
