Kulick honored at International Women's Day Reception hosted by President Obama

200910PBAWSKellyKulick_small.jpgThe last thing Kelly Kulick could have imagined as she rolled her way to victory in the PBA Tournament of Champions in January was that her historic victory would lead to a visit to the White House. And beyond simply acknowledging her as the first woman to win a Lumber Liquidators PBA Tour title, Kulick found herself being honored as an American pioneer who had carved out a unique place in the nation's history as the first woman to win a major championship in a male-dominated professional sport.

Kelly Kulick to attend White House Reception Monday in celebration of Women's History Month

200910PBA10KellyKulick4_small.jpgKelly Kulick (pictured), the first woman to win a Professional Bowlers Association Tour title, has accepted an invitation to visit the White House for a reception to be hosted by President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama. The event, on Monday, March 8 at 4 p.m. Eastern, is in celebration of Women's History Month. Kulick won the PBA Tournament of Champions – the PBA's signature event and one of the Tour's four major events – on Jan. 24 in Las Vegas.

Barnes tops Lee in Chris Barnes Challenge presented by Columbia 300

Three of last year's top 5 are repeat finalists in Sunday's live ESPN2 finals

No sooner had the telecast, which drew a 1.52 Nielsen rating (more than 1.7 million viewers), ended than National Football League star Terrell Owens broke the news to his throng of Twitter followers: "Kelly Kulick just defeated Chris Barnes 265-195 to become the first woman ever to win the PBA Tour!! This tournament finale brings to an end the inaugural World Series of Bowling, which over the last year has been debated nearly non-stop on the PBA message boards and through the media. The WSOB spanned a little over a month in August and September. Seven different PBA tournaments were conducted in that span of time alongside Women's Series events, and even the PBA Senior World Championship.

The 32-year-old Smallwood, like many others felt the hardship of losing his job when the former assembly line worker was laid-off from General Motors a year ago. But he turned that misfortune into a success story by earning an exemption on the Lumber Liquidators PBA Tour, and then winning one of professional bowling’s most prestigious titles.

Newman University's Hartnell upsets Barnes in "Challenge"

2009ChrisBarnesChallenge_small.jpgNewman University senior Derek Hartnell overcame a 77-pin deficit to defeat PBA star Chris Barnes, 719-698, in the first Chris Barnes Challenge presented by Columbia 300 at Northrock Lanes Saturday. Hartnell finished his third game with five strikes as Barnes lost the pocket after throwing a near-perfect 289 in game two of the three-game, total pinfall match. Hartnell won the $3,200 pot, 719-698.

Collegiate Bowler Posts Winning Bid in Chris Barnes Challenge

The three-game, total pinfall, winner-take-all match will be contested on the Blue lane conditioning pattern being used in the Pepsi Red, White and Blue Open currently underway at Northrock Lanes and it will be broadcast exclusively on pba.com's Xtra Frame as it happens.

But there was one problem – only one bowler put his money down to bowl in the event. PBA announces field for 2010 Tournament of Champions

2009PBAWWCKellyKulick_small.jpg200910PBAJasonBelmonte_small.jpgThe PBA has announced the 63-player field for the 2010 PBA Tournament of Champions, set for Jan. 19-24, 2010 at Red Rock Lanes in Las Vegas. The stepladder finals will be telecast live by ESPN at 1 p.m. Eastern on Jan. 24. Kelly Kulick (l.) will make history again as the first woman to compete in the prestigious PBA event. Another trend-setter in the field is Jason Belmonte (r.) of Australia who will be the first two-handed player to compete in the ToC.
