PBA announces Regional Tour Award Winners

The Professional Bowlers Association (PBA) announced today the season-ending awards for the 2007-08 PBA Regional Tour season. Each of the seven PBA Regions awarded a Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year and Pat Patterson award.
The awards for Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year are voted on by the seven Regional Managers and John Weber, Director of the Senior and Regional Tours. The Pat Patterson award was selected by the respective Regional Managers.
Each of the seven regions voted on the three awards. In addition, four of the seven regions (Central, South, Midwest and East) have a Senior Player of the Year award winner. The Senior Player of the Year award is only given if that region hosts a minimum of six senior events.
The Pat Patterson Award is given annually to one member in each of the seven regions for contributions to the PBA Regional programs. The award has been given out since 1972 and carries the name of the late Pat Patterson, who was responsible for numerous advancements which benefited the PBA in its early stages.
In the PBA Central Region, Ken Abner (Cincinnati) was named Player of the Year after leading the Central Region point rankings to earn his first career Denny's PBA Tour exemption. Abner won two titles and finished second in the region with $14,350 in earnings. He cashed in 16 of 18 events and made match play 11 times. His 219.02 average ranked third in the region. The Dan Ottman Rookie of the Year award went to Jeff Jenkins (Elsmere, Ky.) who cashed in nine of 15 events and made match play four times, posting a top finish of 10th. The Senior Player of the Year award was given to Tim Kauble (Marion, Ohio) who posted a pair of runner-up finishes while Randy Hart (Sandusky, Ohio) was named the Pat Patterson award winner.
The PBA East Region awarded Ray Edwards (Middle Island, N.Y.) the Player of the Year award after he led the East Region Point Rankings although he turned down his exemption. Edwards won four titles and led the region with $17,952 in season earnings. Ryan Ciminelli (Cheektowaga, N.Y.) took home Rookie of the Year honors, making match play twice in six events with a high finish of sixth. Sam Maccarone (Sewell, N.J.) won the Senior Player of the Year award for the third consecutive season, winning one title, while Al Jones (Sparta, N.J.) was named the Pat Patterson award recipient.
The PBA Midwest Region Player of the Year award went to David Traber (Hebron, Ill.) who earned an exemption for the 2007-08 Denny's PBA Tour season by leading the PBA Midwest Region point rankings, edging out his brother, Dale. Traber captured one title, finished second twice and third twice and led the region in earnings with $19,170. The Rookie of the Year award went to Nick Plouff (Tomahawk, Wis.), who cashed in six of 20 events and posted a high finish of 10th. The Senior Player of the Year award was given to Tom Carter (Rockford, Ill.), who won two titles and took home $7,800 in earnings while the Pat Patterson award winner for the Midwest region was Ted Baer (Omaha, Neb.).
In the PBA Northwest Region, Craig Tuholski (Washougal, Wash.) was named Player of the Year despite finishing second in points to Chester Rogers. Tuholski won two titles and led the region with $9,150 in earnings. The Rookie of the Year award was given to Andrew Cain (Scottsdale, Ariz.), who made match play in five of six events and finished second twice. Dean O. Buchanan Jr. (Snohomish, Wash.) picked up the Pat Patterson award.
The PBA South Region named Jason Sterner (Roswell, Ga.) the Player of the Year who led the PBA South Region Point Rankings to earn his first career exemption. Sterner won two titles and made match play in 22 of 29 events, leading the region with $21,525 in earnings. Don Stephenson (Palm Bay, Fla.) took home Rookie of the Year honors, capturing one title and cashing in 21 of 29 events. The Senior Player of the Year award was given to George Pappas (Charlotte, N.C.) who earned two victories. Joey Cruz (Gloucester, Va.) took home the Pat Patterson Award.
Nathan Bohr (Wichita, Kan.) and Chris Hibbitts (Ft. Worth, Texas) were named the PBA Southwest Region Player and Rookie of the Years, respectively. Bohr earned his second career Denny's PBA Tour exemption after leading the region in points. He won one title, finished second four times and third three times and led the region with $18,360 in earnings. Hibbitts, meanwhile, cashed in six of 11 events and made match play four times, posting a high finish of sixth. The Pat Patterson award was given to Mark Williams (Beaumont, Texas).

Cain earned one victory and had two runner-up finishes. He made match play in 11 of 17 events and finished second in earnings with $13,425. Dave Wodka (Las Vegas, Nev.) was honored as the Pat Patterson recipient.
