Pluhowsky leads top 10 into Women's Series Match Play in Omaha
10/31/08
Shannon Pluhowsky (pictured left) of Phoenix, Ariz. led the 16-player field in the PBA Women's Series Qualifying at the Pepsi Viper Championship at Thunder Alley in Omaha, Neb. in which the top 10 women advanced to Friday’s match play.
Pluhowsky, one of only two lefties in the Women’s Series field, moved from third after the first 7-game block to finish as the leader, with a 14-game total score of 3032.
Pluhowsky, who averaged 216.57, led second-place Michelle Feldman (right) of Auburn, N.Y. by 29 pins.
“I bowled pretty well on this pattern (Viper) at the Women’s U.S. Open so I tried to take what I did there and use it here,” Pluhowsky said. “But obviously bowling with all the guys makes it a little different. I’ll pretty much have the same game plan tomorrow. It’s not easy to throw a lot of strikes, so you have to make spares when possible.”
Third through fifth place belonged to Team USA members Tennelle Milligan (2941) and Stefanie Nation (2909) and former Team USA member Jennifer Petrick (2908). Malaysia's Shalin Zulkifli, Malaysia, was sixth with 2905.
Team USA member Shannon O'Keefe was in 7th place with 2863, with the second lefty, Trisha Reid, 8th with 2854 and Colombia's Clara Guerrero, 9th with 2852. Diandra Asbaty (left), one of four Women's Series champions in the inaugural season last year, hit the cutoff number for 10th place with 2833 (202.36)
Friday’s competition continues with a 9-game match play round between 6-10 p.m. ET after which the field will be cut to the final two, who will play in the championship match on Sunday, Nov. 2, aired live on ESPN at 1 p.m. (all times ET).
