Jong Hyun (pictured left) averaged 229.00 for the second 8-game block and won all but one match to beat out defending champion Young Pyo for the gold medal by six pins. Sitting in third place with 3381 total before the position round match, Jong Hyun topped block one leader Kong Byoung Hee, Uiwang, Korea, 237-210, to jump to the top with 3628 pinfall total including a 13-3 won-loss record (130 bonus).

Falling from the lead to finish in second with 3622 (11-5) was Young Pyo despite his 213-191 victory over Perry Ko from Kowloon, Hong Kong. Ko earned the bronze medal with 3575 (10-6). Kong Byoung Hee slipped out of the medals to land in fourth place with 3549 (9-6-1).

The 22nd Asian Intercity Tenpin Bowling Championships ran from Nov. 30 through Dec. 5 at Macau Bowling Center, a 24-laner located in the Cotai International Sports Complex in Macau, China. 46 women and 80 men representing 21 cities competed in Singles, Doubles, Team, All-Events and Masters.

The 21 participating cities were Taipei City from Chinese Taipei, Tamuning from Guam, Hong Kong City, Happy Valley, Kowloon and Victoria from Hong Kong, Bangalore, Chennai and Delhi from India, Daegu, Pohang and Uiwang from Korea, Kuantan and Shah Alam from Malaysia, Macau City, Coloane and Taipa from Macau, Saipan, Paranaque City and Pasay City from the Philippines and Singapore.

Cities that have registered with four men and four women also competed for the City Champion Cup for men and for women and the Satoh Cup, the Overall City Champion Cup, named after the late founding member, Mr. Shinto Satoh.

The men's team from Daegu, Korea, Lee Tae Ju, Kim Young Pyo, Kim Jong Hyun and Shin Sung Hoon won the men's City Championship, while Liza Clutario, Cecilia Yap, Yap Seok Kim and Lucy Cheng from Paranaque City, Philippines, won the women's City Championship.

The four Filipinas and their male counterparts Frank Russo, Gene Basa, Sixto Sengson and Johnson Cheng will also bring back home the Satoh Cup.

Actually the team from Daegu (3 gold, 3 silver, 2 bronze and 4 fourth-place finishes) was better than the Philippines team (3 gold, 2 silver, 1 bronze) but Daegu is a "Guest City" of the Asian Intercity Bowling Council (AIBC). A guest city cannot win the Satoh Cup.
