2008AIBCNewHuiFen2.jpg The top 3 women in the Masters competition of the 22nd Asian Intercity Tenpin Bowling Championship battled until the final frame before New Hui Fen (pictured left) from Singapore emerged victorious Friday at Macau Bowling Center in Macau, China.

With the 16th and final position round match to go, block one leaders Fen (3253), Sin Hae Young, Daegu, Korea (3228) and Liza Clutario, Paranaque City, Philippines (3223) had a chance to win the gold medal.

In the match between No. 1 and 2, Sin topped Fen 195-187 but the 10-pin bonus for the victory was not enough for the Korean to surpass Fen.

Meanwhile in the match between No. 3 and 4, Clutario seized a narrow victory over Ditas Red, 203-201. With 3436 pinfall total including 110 bonus, Clutario manged to overtake Sin (3433) but fell four pins short of Fen's 3440 total.

Fen ended the championships with victory in the Women's Masters competition. Clutario earned the silver medal and Sin took the bronze.

Ditas Red, Pasay City, Philippines, landed in fourth place with 3220 total, with Cecilia Yap, Paranaque City, Philippines, in fifth place with 3196.

The 22nd Asian Intercity Tenpin Bowling Championships ran from Nov. 30 through Dec. 5 at Macau Bowling Center, a 24-laner located in the Cotai International Sports Complex in Macau, China. 46 women and 80 men representing 21 cities competed in Singles, Doubles, Team, All-Events and Masters.

The 21 participating cities were Taipei City from Chinese Taipei, Tamuning from Guam, Hong Kong City, Happy Valley, Kowloon and Victoria from Hong Kong, Bangalore, Chennai and Delhi from India, Daegu, Pohang and Uiwang from Korea, Kuantan and Shah Alam from Malaysia, Macau City, Coloane and Taipa from Macau, Saipan, Paranaque City and Pasay City from the Philippines and Singapore.

Cities that have registered with four men and four women also competed for the City Champion Cup for men and for women and the Satoh Cup, the Overall City Champion Cup, named after the late founding member, Mr. Shinto Satoh.

The men's team from Daegu, Korea, Lee Tae Ju, Kim Young Pyo, Kim Jong Hyun and Shin Sung Hoon won the men's City Championship, while Liza Clutario, Cecilia Yap, Yap Seok Kim and Lucy Cheng from Paranaque City, Philippines, won the women's City Championship.

The four Filipinas and their male counterparts Frank Russo, Gene Basa, Sixto Sengson and Johnson Cheng will also bring back home the Satoh Cup.

Actually the team from Daegu (3 gold, 3 silver, 2 bronze and 4 fourth-place finishes) was better than the Philippines team (3 gold, 2 silver, 1 bronze) but Daegu is a "Guest City" of the Asian Intercity Bowling Council (AIBC). A guest city cannot win the Satoh Cup.
