2009 PBA Senior Tour #11

Royal Scot Golf & Bowl in Lansing, Mich. (August 22-26, 2009)

2009PBAS02RonMohr.jpgTwo-time Professional Bowlers Association Senior Tour winner Ron Mohr (pictured left) retained his lead in the PBA Senior Dick Weber Open Monday as the second-round qualifying leader at Royal Scot Golf & Bowl.

The 53-year-old Mohr, from Eagle River, Alaska, led the 101-player field with a 3,533 16-game pinfall (220.8 average). Mohr found the going much tougher in Monday’s eight-game block bowling 1,639 with games of 177, 225, 192, 159, 208, 212, 255 and 211 after bowling 1,894 in Sunday’s round.

“It’s a pretty challenging condition and I think it was a case where a lot of guys were searching for a good shot and couldn’t find one,” Mohr said. “Making spares was very important today.”

2009PBAS07TomBaker.jpgRounding out the top five were Hall of Famer Tom Baker (right), King, N.C., 3,497; Timothy Kauble, Marion Ohio, 3,482; Rick Minier, Cypress, Texas, 3,427 and Hall of Famer Mark Williams, Beaumont, Texas, 3,421.

The top 33 players advance to another eight-game qualifying round Tuesday morning. The field will then be cut to the top 24 for round-robin match beginning Tuesday evening. Match play continues on Wednesday to determine the top five for the stepladder finals scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET.
