Lynda Barnes, Andrew Cain elected BWAA Amateur Bowlers of the Year

Lynda Barnes, Flower Mound, Texas, and Andrew Cain, Chandler, Ariz., have been selected as 2005 Amateur Bowlers of the Year by the Bowling Writers Association of America.
Barnes, in her eighth year as a member of Team USA, capped a successful season by winning the QubicaAMF World Cup in Slovenia. She started her year by winning the U.S. Women's Amateur Championship and then took home two silver and two bronze medals in the World Tenpin Bowling Association Women's World Championships followed by a three-gold, two-silver medal performance in the WTBA American Zone Championships.
Cain, a 24-year-old left-hander and three-time member of Team USA, followed a runner-up finish in the 2005 U.S. Amateur Championships with a bronze medal finish in the 2005 World Games and a three-gold-medal performance in the WTBA American Zone Championships in Costa Rica.
BWAA's Amateur Bowlers of the Year are selected by a committee of veteran bowling writers.
Barnes, a 38-year-old right-hander, previously was selected as BWAA Amateur Female Bowler of the Year in 1998. Cain previously won the men's award in 2001.
Diandra Asbaty of Chicago was runnerup in the women's division while David Haynes of Las Vegas was second in the men's voting.
