Liza Clutario near perfect on her way to the Women's Masters gold in Tamuning

Shellee Javier rolls first 300 of the 23rd Asian Intercity Bowling Championship by a woman

2009AIBCWMPosadasClutarioMandapat.jpgLiza Clutario (center), Paranaque City, Philippines, won all but one of her 16 matches in the women's Masters finals averaging 224.88 en route to claim the gold medal at the 23rd Asian Intercity Bowling Championship Friday at Central Lanes in Tamuning, Guam.

Clutario, a gold medalist in Trios at the 2003 World Championships, posted a huge 1827 8-game series (228.37) on the second day and won seven of her eight matches to leap from third to the top of the leaderboard with 3748 pinfall total including 150 bonus (10 per win).

Her team mate Lara Posadas (left) rolled the field-best 1844 series and had a 6-2 match play record to jump from fifth to second place to earn the silver medal with 3719. Posadas had the highest 16-game total of all 16 competitors with 3609, a 225.56 average, but her 11-5 won-loss record made the difference.

Fely Mandapat (right) from the host city of Tamuning, Guam, who held a one-pin lead after the first block over Kim Hee Jung, Pohang, Korea, took the bronze medal with 3678. Mandapat added 1739 and 60 bonus to the 1877 from Thursday to finish with 3538 pinfall (221.13) and the second-best 14-2 match play record.

Jung had to settle for fourth place with 3634 including a 9-7 won-loss record. Cecilia Yap Paranaque City, Philippines, landed in fifth place with 3609 (7-8-1).

Tamuning's Shellee Javier set the highlight on the last day of competition in the women's division when she rolled the third 300 game of the Championships and the first by a woman in the 11th game. Javier finished in sixth place with 3568 (7-9).

The 23rd Asian Intercity Bowling Championship drew 40 women from 10 cities who bowled for medals in Singles, Doubles and 4-player Teams. Medals were also awarded in All Events (combined results in Singles, Doubles and Team, 18 games overall).

The top 16 in All Events advanced to the Masters finals on Thursday and Friday. Players determined the champion in 15 games round robin match play plus one game position round (10 games bonus per win) starting from scratch.
