Choi Suk Byung shoots another 300 to cruise to victory in Men's Masters

Choi Suk Byung (center) from Daegu, Korea, won his fourth gold medal in the 23rd Asian Intercity Bowling Championship when he cruised to victory in the Men's Masters Friday at Central Lanes in Tamuning, Guam.
Choi, who also won the titles in Doubles, Team and All Events plus a silver medal in Singles, posted his second 300 game of the championships, the fourth overall, in the 9th game en route to the highest 8-game series in the second block.
Choi, who led the 16-player field after the first day with 2060 including 50 pins bonus (10 per win), added 1944 including 50 bonus to easily win the coveted Masters title with 4004 pinfall total and an average of 244 over 16 games.
Choi's team mate, 3-time champion (Singles, Doubles, Team) Kim Young Pyo, and Tamuning's Jonathan Duenas and JD Castro battled it out for the silver and bronze medal in the position round match.
Castro (left), who was in fourth place heading into the position round trailing Kim by 6 and Duenas by 27 pins, defeated Kim, 237-214, to secure a medal. As Duenas fell to Choi, 214-194, Castro leaped two spots to earn the silver medal with 3739 including a 10-6 won-loss record while Duenas (right) maintained a slim 7 pin lead over Kim to secure the bronze medal with 3712 (10-6).
Kim had to settle for fourth place with 3712 (10-6). Jay Ar Tan, Quezon City, Philippines, had the field-best 12-4 match play record but finished in 7th place due to his 212.63 average.
The 23rd Asian Intercity Bowling Championship drew 59 women from 15 cities who bowled for medals in Singles, Doubles and 4-player Teams. Medals were also awarded in All Events (combined results in Singles, Doubles and Team, 18 games overall).
The top 16 in All Events advanced to the Masters finals on Thursday and Friday. Players determined the champion in 15 games round robin match play plus one game position round (10 games bonus per win) starting from scratch.
