Barnes tops Lee in Chris Barnes Challenge presented by Columbia 300
02/22/10
Live on PBA.com's Xtra Frame from Brunswick Zone Wheat Ridge Saturday evening, Chris Barnes broke into the win column as the winner of the Chris Barnes Challenge presented by Columbia 300 II.
Barnes (pictured left), a 12-time Lumber Liquidators PBA Tour titlist and the 2007-08 Player of the year, defeated 34-year-old pro shop manager Shawn Lee of Centennial, Colo., 590-480 in the three-game total pins match to win the $2,000 pot.
As the high bidder, Lee (right) put up $1,000 for the opportunity to bowl Barnes who matched Lee's bid.
Both bowlers found the going to be pretty tough during the match.
"It was a definitely a challenge for both of us," Barnes said. "It was good practice for next week's U.S. Open. I found out quickly I couldn't do the same thing on both lanes so I had to be constantly adjusting with varying degrees of success."
Lee also found the match to be an educational experience.
"I didn't trust myself to make bigger moves," he said. "I probably tried to be a little too perfect. I saw first hand how tough it is for these guys every week out on Tour."
Barnes lost the first Chris Barnes Challenge last December at Northrock Lanes in Wichita, Kan. to Newman University All-American Derek Hartnell.
