03/22/10

Challenger Alex Aguiar (pictured left) of Dartmouth, Mass., defeated Chris Barnes (right), 626-524, to win Chris Barnes Challenge IV presented by Columbia 300 at Norwich Bowling and Entertainment Center Saturday night.
Aguiar, who had posted the high bid of $1,500 to take on Barnes in the three-game, total pinfall contest, took home a $3,000 jackpot.
Aguiar, 30, also had eliminated Barnes, 4-0, when they met in a best-of-seven-game match in the Go RVing Match Play Championships Round of 64 Thursday at Norwich Bowling and Entertainment. Saturday night, Aguiar rolled games of 224, 178 and 224 to Barnes' games of 192, 166 and 166, extending his match game record against Barnes to 7-0.
"He's still the best player in the world," Aguiar said.
"I didn't put up much of a fight," Barnes said. "He did the same thing to me in the tournament. But maybe we'll meet again somewhere down the line."
Barnes is now 2-2 in his four head-to-head challenge matches. The next Chris Barnes Challenge is set for next Saturday during the GEICO Mark Roth Plastic Ball Championship at AMF Babylon Lanes in West Babylon, N.Y. The challenge series airs exclusively online on pba.com's Xtra Frame video-streaming service.
