Osku Palermaa in familiar place in European Bowling Tour ranking
04/20/10

Osku Palermaa (pictured left), the two-hander from Finland, is in a familiar place after the conclusion of the 4th Qubica/AMF Open, the 7th tournament of the 2010 European Bowling Tour, which was contested April 14-18 at Bowling Center Gladiator Arena in Ljubljana, Slovenia.
The 3-time defending European Bowling Tour ranking champion (2007-'09) lost in the semifinals against eventual winner Wendy Kok, Netherlands, en route to finish in third place overall and second in the men's ranking to earn just enough points to pass previous leader Dominic Barrett (right), England, and to stand alone atop the 2010 EBT men's ranking.
Palermaa received 80 points in Ljubljana to overtake the lead with 329 ranking point total. Barrett, who finished second to Palermaa in the past two ranking seasons, did not compete in this tournament and slipped to second place with 325.

Gery Verbruggen (left), Belgium, lost the title match against Kok but earned 100 points for leading the men's ranking to jump into third place with 270 points. The lefty has won the EBT men's rankings in the first four years (2000-'03) after the inception of the European Bowling Tour formerly known as the World Ranking System - European Zone Tour.
The only other ranking champion in the EBT's first ten years was another lefty, Paul Moor (right), England, who earned the title from 2005-'06. Moor is currently 28th in the rankings with 76 points.
Two of the many PBA pros, who bowl on the European Bowling Tour and cash ranking points, Mika Koivuniemi, Finland, and Parker Bohn III, United States, sit in 4th and 5th place with 268 and 260 points.

With only 15 women competing in the 4th Qubica/AMF Open and just three of them, who had cashed ranking points before, Wendy Kok and Nicole Sanders, both Netherlands, and Austria's Petra Grundschober, there were no changes made atop the women's leaderboard.
Nina Flack (pictured left), Sweden, continued to lead the women's ranking with 320 points, with Cherie Tan, Singapore, in second place with 250 points and Tina Hulsch (right), Germany, in third place with 248.
Sanders (pictured below left), who finished 14th in Ljubljana and second in the women's ranking moved into 9th place with 162 points immediately followed by Kok (below right) with 152 points. Grundschober got 44 points for finishing 8th in the women's ranking to move into 32nd place overall with 74 total ranking points.

Since the Ankara Open and the Austria Challenge have been cancelled, the 2010 EBT Tour consists of 19 events - 2 EBT Platinum tournament (formerly Premier), 6 EBT Gold tournaments (formerly Major), 7 EBT Silver tournaments (formerly Challenger) and 4 EBT Satellite tournaments (new category).
The winner of a Platinum tournament receives 250 ranking points, the winner of a Gold tournament gets 150, the winner of a Silver tournament such as the 4th Qubica/AMF Open gets 100, and the winner of a Satellite tournament gets 50 ranking points.
The top 50 men and the top 50 women in each tournament of the 2010 European Bowling Tour will cash ranking points no matter from which country or World Tenpin Bowling Association Zone (Europe, Asia, America) he or she comes.
The top 16 men and the top 16 women at the end of the 2010 EBT season will qualify for the 2011 EBT Masters to be held at Gladiator Arena in Ljubljana, Slovenia, April 11-12, 2011.
The European Bowling Tour takes a 3-week break before heading to Turkey for the 7th Istanbul Bowling Open May 10-16, 2010 at Timeout Bowling Center in Istanbul.
