Vancouver area to host 2010 Canadian National Championships

CTFLogo2.jpg96 of the best bowlers in Canada – 60 men and 36 women – will compete for the right to wear Team Canada colors in 2011 in the 2010 Canadian National Championships. Competition will take place over four days at Rev's Bowling and Entertainment Center in Burnaby, British Columbia.

The entrants include 10 women and 17 men who will be under 20 years of age on January 1, 2011 and eligible for the Team Canada youth team. Activities begin on May 20th at Rev's with the opening ceremonies scheduled for 7 p.m.

The competitors will bowl eight games each on the first two days – May 21st and 22nd. After day two, the field will be cut to 36 men and 24 women who will bowl a further eight games on May 23rd. Another cut to 18 men and 12 women will be made for the final day of head-to-head competition which will take place on May 24th.

The 2011 women's team will compete at the Women's World Championships which was scheduled for Malaysia in August. Because of contract issues, the World Tenpin Bowling Association is looking for a new host.

The men's team is scheduled to compete at the Pan American Bowling Conference (PABCON) men's championships at a site to be determined.

The men and women's gold and silver medalist will bowl for Canada at the Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico in October of 2011.

Two men and women from the team will bowl for Canada at the 2011 Tournament of the Americas which will be held in Orlando, Florida in August.

The Youth Team Canada will participate at the 2011 PABCON Youth Championships and two girls and two boys will bowl for Canada at the Tournament of the Americas.

The championships will conclude on Monday evening with a banquet which will be held at the Ramada Inn and Suites, Guilford in Surrey, BC where the teams will be honored and medals presented.

The evening will also include the Hall of Fame induction of the 15th member, Jack Guay of Calgary, Alberta.

Art Oliver Jr., Hamilton, On, Mark Buff, Montreal, PQ, Jason Kovack, Windsor, On, Michael Schmidt, Winnipeg, Mb.for the adult men. Current youth Team Canada members competing are: Valerie Calberry, Brampton, On, Carrie Hopkinson, Drumbo, On., Marie-Eve Robertson, St-Jerome, QC for the women. Francois Lavoie, Quebec City, QC, Matthew Lewis, Burlington, On., Frankie Catanzarti, Montreal, QC for the men.
