Van Hees, White lead top 32 into match play at PBA Regional Players Championship

Jonathan Van Hees (pictured left) of Charlestown, R.I., and Matt White (right) of Warren, Pa., maintained their one-two positions to lead the field of 32 finalists into the match play finals of the Professional Bowlers Association Regional Players Championship at Thunderbowl Lanes.
Van Hees averaged 231.12 for 16 qualifying games, topping the field of 172 non-exempt PBA members with a total of 3,698 pins. White finished with a 3,607 total, 91 pins behind. Donald Hogue of Akron, Ohio, was third with 3,600 pins followed by former PBA Touring Players Jason Sterner of McDonough, Ga., at 3,572 and Riga Kalfas of Florence, Ky., at 3,563.
The field was cut to the top 32 for Monday’s single-elimination match play finals. First prize in the tournament is $7,500 plus a guaranteed berth in the 2011 PBA Tournament of Champions, a record $1 million event with a $250,000 first prize.
Shannon Pluhowsky of Kettering, Ohio, kept her hopes of becoming the first woman to win the RPC alive by qualifying for the finals in 23rd place.
