Korean women and Guam men take different routes to win Trios title at EAPC

Korea claimed the third gold medal in as many events and the fourth overall while the Guam men captured the first gold medal for the host country in the Trios event at the 24th East Asian Pacific Championship Saturday at Central Lanes in Tamuning.
The winning teams took different routes to win the title. Korea's Lee Mi Ryung, Lee Seung Ree and Sim Ui-Jin (pictured right) earned the No. 1 seed after the six-game preliminaries with a 210.44 average, the highest in both men's and women's competition. In the opening match, Korea flew past Japan, 623-515 and Chinese Taipei's Pan Yu-Fen, Chen Kuan-Ting and Chang Yu-Hsuan, seeded second, defeated their team mates, 640-600.

In a surprisingly low-scoring championship match, the Koreans cruised to the title with a 567-540 victory. Chinese Taipei earned silver and shared the bronze with Japan.
The second trio from Korea with 2-time gold medalist Park Ju Young (Singles and Doubles) and her doubles partner Kim Hyun Mi missed the cut to the top 4 in fifth place by 36 pins.
Guam's Reynaldo Zialcita, Manny Tagle and Jay Leon Guerrero (pictured left) barely survived the first cut and took the fourth and final spot to advance by just one pin over Japan, 3568 to 3567.

Guam stunned top seeded Chinese Taipei in the opening match defeating the spinners, 589-563. Meanwhile second seeded Macau with Jose Manuel Machon, Tak Man Lee and Io Fai Cho ousted Japan, 602-544, to advance to the title match.
After 190 frames, both Guam and Macau where deadlocked at 568 each and a one-ball roll-off must determine the champion. Both team selected their anchor bowler, Jay Leon Guerrero (Guam) and Io Fai Cho (Macau) for the job. Fai Cho got a six-count and Guerrero, who had the lowest score of all six bowlers in the final (156) sealed the victory with a strike.
Macau earned the silver medal and Chinese Taipei shared the bronze with Japan.
