Industry's best honored at International Bowl Expo in Las Vegas By Mark Miller

2009BWAABotYLizJohnsonNormDuke.jpgPart of each International Bowl Expo is spent honoring the best the sport and business has to offer and the 2010 event June 28-July 1 in Las Vegas was no exception.

The week started off with elections for the officers in the Bowling Proprietors' Association of America. Taking their positions July 1 were:

  • John Snyder, Alpena, Mich., president
  • Cathy DeSocio, Wichita, Kan., vice president
  • Tom Martino, Hopelawn, N.J., treasurer
  • Nancy Schenk, Fayetteville, N.C., secretary
  • Mike Ducat, Winter Haven, Fla., director-at-large
  • Kathleen Perry, Woodbine, Md., director-at-large
  • Jim Stubler, Peru, Ill., director-at-large

Martino also earned one of the industry service awards, the President's Medal. The highest honor, the Victor Lerner Memorial Medal and 2010 BPAA Hall of Fame inductee, went to Ted Hoffman Jr. of Dublin, Calif.

Other industry service award winners were:

  • Roger Dalkin, Greendale, Wis., V.A. Wapensky Award
  • Bob Stubler, Peru, Ill., Ruben A. Dankoff Award for Public Policy & Legislative Service
  • Johnny Petraglia, Jackson, N.J., Dick Weber Bowling Ambassador Award
  • Dan Labrecque, Battle Creek, Mich., Special Projects Awards

BWAAJohnJowdy_small.jpgJohn Jowdy (right), El Cajon, Calif., was inducted into the Bowling Coaches Hall of Fame while Joe Kristof, Columbus, Ohio, and Jeanette Robinson, Las Vegas, were presented as members of the 2010 Trailblazer class.

In addition, 15 bowling center owners were cited as BPAA Proprietors of the Year in their states. They were:

  • Jim Decker, Double Decker Lanes, Rohnert Park, Calif.
  • Paul Kreins, Bowl Ero Lanes, Lakewood, Colo.

  • Randy Thompson, Plaza Lanes, Des Moines, Iowa
  • Tom Sims, Fox Bowl, Wheaton, Ill.
  • Steve Kunkel, The Bowling Center, Bluffton, Ind.
  • Roger Phillipi, Community Bowling Centers, Livonia, Mich.
  • Mike Warring, Junction Bowl, Insanti, Minn.
  • Andy Bartholomy, Bartholomy Centers, Springfield, Mo.
  • Jim Russo, Manor Lanes, Tonawanda, N.Y.
  • Bob Cooke, Lex Lanes, Lexington, Ohio
  • James Plessinger, Suburban Bowlerama, Inc., York, Pa.

The Bowling Writers' Association of America also honored its best for 2009:
