Dominican Republic starts Tournament of The Americas with three gold medals in Singles

2010ToAAumiGuerra.jpg2010ToAJulioGoris.jpgBowlers from the Dominican Republic claimed three gold medals in the opening event of the 48th Lee Evans Tournament of The Americas currently underway at Boardwalk Bowl in Orlando, Fla.

Aumi Guerra (pictured left; Adult Women), Julio Goris (right, Senior Men) and Manino Fernandez Junior A (ages 16-19) Boys won the Singles titles in their respective divisions.

Puerto Rico and the United States earned two gold medals each and Colombia got one.

All players bowled two six-game series over two days with the 12-game total determining the winners.

2010ToAJeanPerez.jpg 2010ToAEliseBolton2.jpgJean F. Perez (left) posted the field-best 2665 pinfall total to win the Adult Men Division with an average of 222.08.

Guerra and Junior Team USA's Elise Bolton (right; Junior A Girls) led the female competitors with 2483 and an average of 206.92.

The Lee Evans Tournament of The Americas is the oldest annual international tournament in the American Zone.

The invitational competition for countries of PABCON (Pan American Bowling Confederation - the American Zone of World Tenpin Bowling Association) has four divisions for men and women: Adult, Senior (ages 50-plus), Junior A (ages 16-19) and Junior B (ages 12-15).

In each division, one team comprised of two men and two women compete in Singles, Doubles, Mixed Doubles and Team event throughout the week-long tournament. After 36 games, Individual All-Events and National All-Events champions are recognized.
