Philippines lead Squad 3 but miss the top 4 by 12 pins in MWC Trios preliminaries

USA, Mexico, Thailand, Finland remain atop the leaderboard

2010MWCKingRiveraMiranda.jpg2010MWCONeillJonesBarnes.jpgChester King, Biboy Rivera and Raoul Miranda (pictured left, l-r) posted a 1852 3-game series on the 45-foot WTBA Mexico City oil pattern to pace Squad 3 with 3711 six-game total and an average of 206.17 but the Filipinos fell 12 pins short of the top 4 and will not be eligible to bowl for the medals tonight.

The four trios who led Squad 2 on Wednesday morning remained atop the leaderboard with Squad 1 yet to bowl.

Team USA's Bill O'Neill, Chris Barnes and Tommy Jones above (right, l-r) set a 3-game new championship record (2196, 244 ave.) en route to take the lead with 4081 pinfall total an average of 226.72.

Finns Joonas Jähi, Petteri Salonen and Pasi Uotila (right l-r) hold the fourth and final place to advance with 3723 (206,83) .

2010MWCLousdalStampeHutchinson.jpg2010MWCSchmidtBuffaLessard.jpgPlaces 5-11 belong to trios of Squad 3. Trailing the Philippines by 21 pins to sit in 6th place was Denmark with Anders Lousdal, Mik Stampe and Paul Hutchinson (left, l-r) with 3690.

Colombia's Jorge Romero, Juan Rodriguez and Jaime Monroy and Finns Mika Koivuniemi, Juhani Tonteri and Osku Palermaa finished tied at 3664 with the Colombians seeded 7th due to the higher last game, 578-577.

Michael Schmidt, Mark Buffa and Jean-Sebastien Lessard (above right, l-r)  felled 1869 pins on the long pattern to leap into 9th place with 3639. With two of three squads in the books, Hussain Al Suwaidi, Sayed Ibrahim and Nayef Oqab, UAE, round out the top 10 with 3629 pinfall total or an average of 201.61.

The last trio with an average over 200 was Kuwait with Basel Al Anzi, Fahad Al Ragheeb and Mohamad Kamel, who checked in with 3614, good for 11th place.

The entire field of 115 trios was split into three squads who will bowl two 3-game series, one each on the 38-foot Atlanta (Tuesday) and 45-foot Mexico City (Wednesday) oil pattern. The top four trios after 6 games will advance to the playoffs starting on Wednesday at 8 p.m. CET (2 p.m. EST).

The 2010 WTBA World Men's Championships will run through Aug. 21st. Players will compete for medals in six events - Singles, Doubles, Trios, five-player Team, All Events and Masters match play.

Bowlingdigital.com will provide live streaming of the semifinals, finals and award ceremonies of each event.
