Colombia leads Squad 2 to move into fourth place in Team event

USA, Finland, Norway remain atop the leaderboard in at Men's World Championships

2010MWCTeamUSA.jpg2010MWCTrioCOL.jpgThe Colombian 5-player team, Jaime Monroy, David Romero, Fabio Garcia, Manuel Otalora and Andres Gomez (pictured left) rolled games of 1037, 1077 and 983 to lead Squad 2 in the preliminaries of the Team event at the Men's World Championships. The Colombians totaled 3097 pins and averaged 206,47. PBA exempt player Gomez led the team with 655.

Squad 1 leaders Patrick Allen, Chris Barnes, Wes Malott, Bill O'Neill and Tommy Jones (right, l-r), United States, led the field of 54 countries Thursday at Dream-Bowl Palace in Unterföhring, Germany, with the field-best 3314 pinfall total and an average of 220.93.

The Americans, who have won the gold medals in Singles and Trios, had games of 1142, 1122 and 1050 on the 38-foot WTBA Atlanta lane conditioning.

2010MWCTeamNOR.jpg2010MWCTrioGRE.jpgFinland's Mika Koivuniemi, Joonas Jähi, Petteri Salonen, Pasi Uotila and Osku Palermaa finished the first day of the preliminaries in second place with 3285 (219.00). Norway's Svein Roger Olsen, Martin Olsen, Bjørn Einar Rudshagen, Mads Sandbækken and Tore Torgersen (pictured left with Frederik Tjernes) were 98 pins behind Finland in third place with 3187 (212.47).

Greece with Evangelos Krizinis, Georgios Stefanidis, Ioannis Stathatos, Leonidas Maragkos and Stavros Parasakis (right) was tied with Belgium's Mats Maggi, Steve Peetroons, Olivier Leroy, Jean-Marc Samain and Gery Verbruggen at 3088 (205.87). Greece moved into fifth place due to the higher last game, 1039 to 1004.

Singapore with Ng Tiac Pin, Mark Wong, Justin Lim, Jason Yeong-Nathan and Remy Ong (right) led Squad 2 after two games (1134, 1043) but fell to third and 8th overall behind an 892 in the final game. The Singaporeans totaled 3069 pins (204,60).

2010MWCTrioKOR.jpg2010MWCTeamGER.jpg2008 MWC Team silver medalist Korea with Choi Bok-Eum, Cho Young-Seon, Jang Dong-Chul, Kim Jea-Hoon and Kim Tae-Young were 10 pins behind in 9th place with 3059 (203,93).

Rounding out the top 10 was the host country, Germany, with Pascal Winternheimer, Bodo Konieczny, Marco Baade, Achim Grabowski and Jens Nickel (pictured right, l-r, with Michael Holzapfel on the far left) with 3039.

The teams from 54 countries were split into two squads who will bowl two 3-game blocks, one each on the 38-foot WTBA Atlanta (Thursday) and 45-foot WTBA Mexico City (Friday) lane conditioning pattern.

The top four teams after 6 games will advance to the playoffs starting on Friday evening at 7.30 p.m. CET (1.30 p.m. EST).

The 2010 WTBA World Men's Championships will run through Aug. 21st. Players will compete for medals in six events - Singles, Doubles, Trios, five-player Team, All Events and Masters match play.

Bowlingdigital.com will provide live streaming of the semifinals, finals and award ceremonies of each event.
