46th QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup to be held in October in Zagreb, Croatia

QubicaAMFLogo_mini.jpgAt the victory banquet of the 45th QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup in Melaka, Malaysia in November 2009 it was announced that the 2010 edition of one of bowling's most prestigious tournaments will be held in Zagreb, Croatia. QubicaAMF Worldwide, founder, organizer and principal sponsor of the Bowling World Cup and one of the largest bowling products companies in the world, has now confirmed that the 46th QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup will be held in the Croatian capital from Oct. 15-24, 2010.

DBU releases Bulletin No. 1 for the WTBA Men’s World Championships in Munich, Germany

2010MWCLogo_small.jpg The German Bowling Federation (DBU), host of the 2010 World Tenpin Bowling Association Men’s World Championships, has released the Bulletin No. 1 for the championships which will be held from Aug. 11-22, 2010 in Munich, Germany. The 2010 MWC will be staged at Dream-Bowl Palace in Munich, Germany, a state-of-the-art 52-laner in Unterföhring, a suburb of the city of Munich, close to Munich International Airport. Bulletin No. 1 contains information about the tentative schedule, official hotels, Dream-Bowl Palace, Munich, committees, facilities and services, fees as well as forms and deadlines.

QubicaAMF announces TV transmission times for 2009 World Cup

2009BWCLogo_small.jpgQubicaAMF Bowling World Cup Manager Anne-Marie Board has announced the TV transmission times for the stepladder finals of the 45th QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup in Melaka, Malaysia (Nov. 13-20, 2009.) The men's show will feature No. 1 Choi Yong-Kyu, Korea, No. 2 Michael Schmidt, Canada and No. 3 Ryan Lalisang, Indonesia. The women's final will feature No. 1 seed Caroline Lagrange, Canada, No. 2 Siti Safiyah Amirah, Malaysia, and No. 3 Zara Giles, England.

Leandersson picks Swedish team for 2010 Men's World Championships

Project gives players eight months for preparation

2009BWCTomasLeandersson_small.jpgThe 2010 Men's World Championship is exactly eight months away (Aug. 11-22, 2010) but Swedish national team coach Tomas Leandersson (l.) has already nominated the six players for the Swedish national team for Munich, Germany. "It has never happened before that we decided the team eight months ahead," stated Leandersson,. "However, this is a project where we want to see the outcome when the players get the possibility of a much longer time for preparation before the championship."

Choi Yong-Kyu captures first World Cup title for Korea

Denies Michael Schmidt's bid for second World Cup title

2009BWCMenschampionChoiYongKyu1_small.jpgChoi Yong-Kyu (pictured left), who has dominated the men's division of the 45th QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup in Melaka, Malaysia since the second qualifying block, captured the first World Cup title for Korea in the 45-year history of the prestigious event. In the title match top seeded Choi swept 2005 BWC champion Michael Schmidt, Canada, 2-0, and denied Schmidt's bid to become just the second men to win multiple titles. Schmidt also made quick work of No. 3 seed, Ryan Lalisang, Indonesia, in the opening match.
The 46th QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup will be held in Zagreb, Croatia (Oct. 16-23, 2010, tbc).

Caroline Lagrange wins women's title in 45th QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup

Strikes out in the 10th frame to beat Zara Glover, two-games-to-one

Top seeded Caroline Lagrange (l.) from Canada came back from a 1-0 deficit to defeat No. 3 seed Zara Giles, England, two-games-to-one to win the women's title in the 45th QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup in Melaka, Malaysia. Lagrange dropped the first game, 189-194, but rebounded with a 210-181 win to level the match. Needing a double and four to win the decisive game, Lagrange delivered three strikes to seal the victory, 218-211. Giles swept No. 2 seed Siti Safiyah Amirah, Malaysia, in the opening match.

2009BWCChoiYongKyuKorea300_small.jpgEventual World Cup champion Choi Yong-Kyu from Korea, rolled the sole 300 game of the 45th QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup in the sixth game of round robin match play (38th game overall) on Thursday morning Nov. 19 at Melaka International Bowling Center in Melaka, Malaysia. It was the 44th perfecto in the World Cup history and the 35th by a man. Another first for Choi as he was the first Korean bowler, man or woman, to accomplish the feat. Choi Yong-Kyu shoots the first 300 game to secure top seed for the men's World Cup finals

Choi finished with 9182 total including 60 bonus (30 per win). 2005 BWC champ and No. 2 seed Michael Schmidt, Canada, and No. 3 Ryan Lalisang, Indonesia, will square off in the opening match. PBA superstar Walter Ray Williams Jr., USA, had the field-best 6-2 match play record but missed the show by 70 pins in fifth place.

Caroline Lagrange wins all matches to earn the No. 1 seed for women's World Cup finals

Lagrange finished the 40-game preliminaries with 9006 total including bonus (30 per win). In the opening match, Siti Safiyah Amirah (r., 8880), Malaysia, will face Zara Giles (8823), England, who fell from first to third. Canada has won the Bent Petersen Country award.

Kyu held on to the lead with 7358 pinfall total, an average of 229.94, as the field was cut to the top 8 players. All-time PBA titlist Walter Ray Williams Jr. (r.), United States, leaped into fifth place but has still a lot of work to do make the cut to the final on Thursday afternoon.

Giles rolled a 1751 series in the quarterfinal to lead the top 8 women into the semifinal on Thursday morning with 7026 pinfall total and an average of 219.56. Young Latvian Diana Zavjalova (r.) posted an outstanding 1889 series to leapfrog from 15th to 4th place.

Choi felled 5652 pins, an average of 235.50 over 24 games. Sonny Reguerra (r.), New Zealand, beat out 4-time World Cup champ Paeng Nepomuceno, Philippines, for the 24th and final spot to advance by three pins, 4963 to 4960.

Larsen maintained a slim 3-pin lead over former World Cup champion Michael Schmidt from Canada.
